Rana Maps combines proprietary software and map layers with open map data and open-source software. The licences below continue to govern their respective components.
OpenStreetMap data
Roads and footpaths in the map use OpenStreetMap data. Credit it as © OpenStreetMap contributors. The data is available under the Open Database Licence (ODbL) 1.0. See the OpenStreetMap copyright and attribution page for details.
Mapping software in this repository
- MapLibre Native for Android renders the map in the app. It is licensed under BSD 2-Clause.
- Valhalla provides routing. Its project is licensed under MIT.
- Martin serves Rana's approved vector layers. It is dual-licensed under MIT or Apache 2.0.
- PostGIS is used with PostgreSQL to store and query spatial data. Its source is licensed under GPL 2.0 or later.
- AndroidX, Jetpack Compose, Material 3, Kotlin and kotlinx.coroutines are used in the Android app under Apache License 2.0.
Fonts and map symbol resources
- Plus Jakarta Sans and JetBrains Mono are bundled through Fontsource packages under the SIL Open Font License 1.1.
- Maki and Temaki icon resources in the map-language design files are CC0.
- OpenStreetMap Carto icon resources in the map-language design files are CC0.
- Tabler is MIT-licensed and is used as a design reference in the map-language files. Its outline icons are redrawn before shipping.
The font licence notices are included in the site files. Other licence notices are kept with their source components in the repository.
